Since we don't get too much cold and definitely no snow here in Florida, the kids don't get a chance to do those fun super cold/snow activities (sledding, ice skating, snow ball fights etc...).
Luckily, the local university sets up a really cool event for the whole family to do alot of that; and this year I took all of the kids to try ice skating and (faux) ice sledding.

It was rainy and chilly that day, but it didn't stop Ethan and Joseph from wearing shorts.... ;-)

They were so excited to get their skates on and get on that ice.....

Ethan and Joseph picked it up right away....

And both got moving pretty fast....

But CJ and Angie were a little wobbly....

They had a GREAT time.... repeatedly telling me it was "the best day ever".... and that makes me feel good!!!

WOW..... it's been since July since I've written anything here!! WOW.... I once thought this would be my daily "therapy"; somehwere to come vent and meet new people!!

And while I do still feel that way, I just can't ever find the freaking time to sit down and write something!! I do miss it.... and I believe me, I do still check in on EVERYBODY, ALL OF THE TIME (you know you can't get rid of my nosy self!!); but life just gets in the way (how dare it) and I never have time to do it anymore!!

BUT, as of today... I am going to make the time--- I need it.... I deserve it, right? These few minutes of "venting" and "chatting".... I want it!!

I'm back, my friends!!!

.... when the boys go to their Dad's house for the month....

Every July, they spend the whole month with him. And while the first few days (maybe the first week) are nice and quiet, after that I am serioulsy BORED and missing them terribly!!!

Don't get me wrong, Angie is lots of fun and she does keep me busy.... but still, the house is just too quiet.... :-(

So, I'm going to have a great weekend with the kids and enjoy every minute of it..... and try to get lots of crazy going on, so that I will be ready for the quiet!! (does that even make since)

Wow..... LOOOOONNNNGGGG time, huh?? I won't even go into an explanation, except to say that it has been a very busy past few months!!!

I hope all is well with everyone-- and I promise to come "visit" all my "friends".... ;-)

Anyway-- CJ turned 14 on Monday; and for one of his gifts, Joe bought him an Adventure Flight.... (back story on this, is that in the past few months CJ has gotten WAY into airplanes, flying, models etc....)!!

An Adventure Flight is a 45 minute flight to their "training space", get some flying/training time there and then back into the flight pattern and land. While up there, CJ actually got to fly the plane H-I-M-S-E-L-F.... WOWZERS!!!

They just got back and CJ can not stop talking about flying and the plane and now flying lessons!!!

Oh, I am SOOOO looking forward to this weekend.... I am ready for sleeping in, watching some 90210 on Saturday and Sunday morning (yes, I am a dork), watching Joseph play baseball, going to see "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" with the kids..... and just having some relaxation!!!!

You know, thank goodness for these "Me-me's" or I would be at a loss for what to write about sometimes!! Seriously, I am usually one who can NOT shut up (my mom used to say that you could put me next to a bookshelf and I would still be talking); but sometimes when I sit in front of this blog, thinking about what to write, I am just B-L-A-N-K...... Finally, I have a place to freely express myself, without anyone butting in or acting like they don't care..... and nothing.... Go figure!!!!

Yes......... my sweet little lady cried for about 30 (yes, you heard me T-H-I-R-T-Y) minutes because we couldn't find her Dora roller skates and she wanted to skate with her brothers....
She cried and cried and cried and cried......and yea, I was ready to pull out every single strand of hair from my head.
So, I did what every good mother would do (wink-wink)-- I made her go into her room so she could calm down; and by that I mean, I put her in there so I could gather my sanity ;-)

After a few minutes, it was quiet---- she did calm down and stopped crying..... I won, right?? She listened to me and learned how to handle her emotions........ No, she just fell asleep!!!

This is really truly an "All About Me" post.... I am supposed to show a self-portrait and/or explain myself in 1,000 words.... Wow, I wonder if I could even think of that much stuff to say about myself (and that's coming from someone who doesn't usually shut-up) ;-)

I was going through all of my pictures, trying to find one of just ME, and I really couldn't find any.... You all know that when you have kids, you are usually the one behind the camera and are rarely ever seen yourself!!! Anyway, I found these pictures taken by Angie one evening at Smokey Bones for dinner....

Soooooo...... I am a pretty silly, easy going, laid-back person... I do have my moments where someone will piss me off and then I feel like I have to get it off my chest or I will explode (figuratively, of course); but for the most part I try to let things just slide off my back.

I can hold a conversation with someone, while I am also dealing with one of the kids....and cooking and cleaning...and running around trying to get something done. And the funny thing is, it all stays in order in my head....

I am a very loyal girlfriend and friend.... I will do anything for somebody that I care about.... I will always help out when I can... I love to make people happy and smile!!!

I am a pretty defensive person though.... even though I think I can handle constructive (or any) criticism, I still feel like I have to defend myself constantly... WHY??? I don't know, but I wish I could stop it!! (Unfortunately, that is one of the traits that CJ picked up from me.... blah).

I love to read James Patterson books, play Bejewled Blitz (i know, I'm a dork) on my computer, scrapbook, and do things with Joe and my children.... A perfect weekend for me, is to sleep in and lay around for a litte while, eat a yummy breakfast made by Joe (since he is king breakfast maker), lay around a little longer while the kids are getting dressed and playing, and then all of us go out and spend the day together.... (I wish I was doing that NOW)!!

Well, there you have it..... I feel like I was in an interview.... Did I get the job--- will you be my friend...?

A true friend is somebody that you can turn to for ANYTHING.... someone who is there for you through thick and thin!!! They listen to you when you need an ear and they trust you enough to share their innermost feelings!!
They understand you and support you..... and when you get upset with each other, true friends talk it out...don't hold grudges.... love each other!!
A true friend is like your family!!!

It's funny how sometimes you have an eye-opening experience that reminds you who your TRUE friends are and who are NOT!!

Two Thumbs

My Uncle Will is one of the most positive people I know (besides you, of course, DAD); one who I can always rely on to give a good pep talk. I remember as a little girl, going to visit him in Chicago, he would listen to Zig Ziglar in the car.... and have me listen to the cassettes as I was going to sleep!!

I wish I could've held on to all that I heard, but I do take pride in that I try to be as positive as I can for the most part (even when Joseph is punished in is his room....laying on his bed kicking and SCREAMING as loud as he can)!!

A couple of weeks ago, on his last night in town, we had the special treat of having him spend the night with us!! While here, he taught us a little "diddy" (that the kids made their own) for when we are feeling down.

Since I can't sing it to you (and you are thankful for that, trust me!!), try to imagine your own tune for it:

"Two thumbs, two thumbs, two thumbs.... you cross them like this...."

Well, not ME personally....... at least not yet.... (since it is in Miami, and we are only 4 hours away, I am trying to convince Joe)....

But, my Indianapolis Colts are heading back to the Super Bowl....

I did have a bit of a scare yesterday, as the Jets looked very good during the 1st half of the game.... and I am the type of football watcher who gets super frustrated and wants to give up immediately!!

BUT, like they have done many times, the Colts came back in the 2nd half and D-O-M-I-N-A-T-E-D!!!!

The ONLY problem (and it's not really a problem) is that my BFF is a Saints fan..... so, I imagine it will be her and I glued to the TV during the whole game, instead of hosting our Super Bowl party.....

Oh well.....

Snowing in Florida....?

Well...... I wouldn't call it a big, fluffy, white snowstorm.... But, all of the forecasts say that early tomorrow morning we might see snow flurries!!!

You see, like the rest of the country, we have been in a major cold snap....and by cold (for us in FL) I mean our average temperatures have been in the low 50's (yes, that is freaking cold for me!!).

Well.....there is another big cold front coming in overnight, along with some "moisture" (in Florida, we call that rain); and the combination of those is bringing a CHANCE of snow flurries. Realistically, it probably won't happen... but it sure is fun thinking that we might wake up to see some white stuff falling from the sky!! And for the kids, who are overly excited, I really hope it does!!

5 Years and It Does NOT Get Easier.....

In Loving Memory of "Nanny"

June 6, 1952 - January 7, 2005

This day 5 years ago, my mother lost her battle with cancer!! This day 5 years ago, I watched my mom take her final breaths and finally be at peace and out of pain!! This time 5 years ago, I laid my head in my mommy's lap and cried and she started her journey to Heaven..... family and her best friend at her side; praying in her ear as she died!! This time 5 years ago, we were making funeral arrangements...

I feel cheated...I feel she was cheated on life!! She didn't get the chance to grow old and watch her grandchildren graduate, start careers, get married etc... She didn't get the chance to grow old with me!!!

5 years and it doesn't get any easier..... time does NOT heal the wounds; it only makes me learn to live with it!!

Mom--

I miss you more than words can describe!! You were the BEST mom in.this.world. You were my best friend, comforter, confidant, advice giver, "on call" medical help, shopping buddy, best cook, favorite sleepover buddy and the best Nanny to my children --You made me who I am today; and I pray that I will be half the woman, mother, co-worker, daughter and friend that you were!!

It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas......

Oh how I love this time of year...... I know it is extra busy and it doesn't always bring out the best in people (which I've never understood); but I just love the spirit of the season!!!

We have the lights up on the house, the house decorated, tree up and decorated, most of the presents bought and wrapped and my Christmas cards out..... awwww..... just 2 or 3 gifts and I am D-O-N-E....well, done shopping!! I do have to do my baking.... but I will do that next week... and honestly that is one of my favorite holiday traditions-- reminds me of my mom!!! ;-)

My grandmother comes next week and we are having our big Christmas Eve dinner (which is a tradition in Joe's family) here this year.... so we have lots of planning left to do.... but you know what... I don't care.... It's beginning to look alot like Christmas------ BRING IT ON!!!

In honor of the Christmas season, Supahmommy and Mommybrain want to know:

5 laps I'd rather sit on than Santa........ and I wonder what I will tell them..... !!!

Hmmmmmmm, well since I just saw "New Moon" on Saturday.... and I am still on that high..... I think my list will be a New Moon Edition!!

1. Edward Cullen--- I mean, come on..... He may not be as buff as Jacob, but he is Edward..... and that's all that matters

2. Jacob Black-- Even though he is a bit young for me; and by that I mean, I could literally be his mother (if I were a teenage mom).... but whatever he did to get in shape for this movie..... WOWZA!!!!!

3. Sam and the other "werewolves"-- There is just something about a dark haired, dark-eyed, olive skinned, awesome body, STRONG, protective man (i mean werewolf)

4. Aro-- Now, this vampire is not good looking, AT ALL... but he is powerful.... and sometimes powerful is sexy!!

5. Jasper-- Ever since Twilight, there was always something about Jasper that peeked my interest.... Maybe because he is shy and timid, but dangerous on the inside....

Don't get me wrong.... there are plenty of "mortals" (Joe :-), Giles Marini, Derek Hough, Ben Bratt etc...) whose laps I could definitely keep warm..... but let me just dream and have fun with my imagination a little bit!!

Stomach Flu or Food Posioning....?

I think I am actually hoping that this is just food poisoning..... because if that is the case then I don't have to worry about the kids and Joe getting it from me!!!

It all started last night, after an awesome rib dinner (where I think I ate uncooked rib before it was ready).... I was having such bad stomach pains that I was in tears. I went from stomach pains to heaving to the "bathroom"..... uuugggghhhh.....

I am feeling better today, but definitely NOT 100%; and I have only eaten some mashed potatoes!!!

I haven't joined MamaKat and her writing projects in a LONG.... VERY LONG.... time. You know, I just haven't felt very creative; so, as to not bore everyone, I just stepped back for a little while....

But, in the spirit of Christmas, I have decided to jump back in.... hope you still like me Mrs. MamaKat!!

Dear Santa-
I think I have been pretty good this year…. I may have been a little mischievous during and after a night out with friends… but besides that, I am a good.girl. The kids have been (dare I say it) good; I mean they have their moments…boy do they ever….but they are kids and well, Kids.are.kids. In the grand scheme of things, the kids have been good….they are even getting into the hang of getting their chores done without me telling them over and over!!
Let me first get past the whole “I want good health, peace, love and happiness for all”, because who doesn’t want that….. but there are a few things that I want:

A new laptop--- mine hit the crapper a few months ago and I have been (gasp) sharing with CJ and Joe… and Santa, I don’t like to share (shhhhh!!!)

A new camera--- I do like the one I have now, but you know I hate the fact the screen is messed up and has that black circle on it…. Which causes EVERYONE to mention it anytime they are taking a picture….even I have already told them not to worry about it.
And since you are getting me a new camera, I’d actually like one a bit bigger and fancier…. Pleeeassseee!!!

A good, long massage--- do I need to explain.....

But, Santa... what I really, really, really want is.....

for these 4 kids to have the best Christmas ever.... You know I love these little hellions (err, I mean angels) with all my heart-- and I love making memories and traditions to carry on for all of theie lives....

Wow, it's been a couple weeks since I've been able to "speak my mind"..... but I am back, my friends!!

We had a really great time on vacation.... we drove from Florida to PA and then on our way back stopped in DC for Thanksgiving and to see the sites!! I will share lots of pictures later, but for now....................

Veteran's Day.....

We went to Angie's school program today in honor of Veteran's Day.... They sang all the patriotic songs, sang all of the anthems from each branch, recognized each and every former and current member of the military and listened as a WWII P.O.W. told his story.

I don't know why, but all of that stuff gets me so emotional.... every time!! I love to watch and listen as the kids sing those songs to honor our country and learn about the military who serve our country!!

At the end of the service, the played TAPS and then had a moment of silence.... first of all TAPS will make me cry anytime I hear it; but then to watch as each and every member of the military, raised their hands in salute as it was played--- it just gave me chills.

Gosh, we have no idea what is was (is) like to be in another country, against their people-- fighting for your life (because they really are doing that)!!

Thank you all for your service to our Country!!

Dear Kids (CJ, this means YOU)- as your mother, I am telling you-- DO NOT READ THIS POST... you are not allowed until you are at least 18!! FINAL-- don't even ask!! And I will be able to tell if you do read it!! There are some things that moms just don't want to share with their kids (oh, but of course I don't mind sharing with tons of strangers)!!

I guess that is the problem with a blog that everyone I know reads... I can't always share EVERYTHING that I'd like to, without fear of who will read it.... Oh well, I got the "disclaimer" out of the way....

This is a pretty easy subject for me..... not to sound like a wild woman or anything, but Joe and I have a VERY "healthy" time at Inspiration Point.... we visit often; are never bored with it; and are always thinking up new adventures!! One such visit, that got interrupted by one of the kids.....

Let me preface the story with this-- (Dad/Carol, if you've gotten this far; then I apologize for the next couple of lines...) When I was a little girl, I remember that somehow I found out that my dad & stepmother would take a shower together...and somehow I found out that they did that so they could "conserve water"..... and let me tell you, I did believe that... I believed that for a long time... up until I was older and realized that probably wasn't true--- but I-DO-NOT-WANT- TO- GO- THERE... T.M.I.

Ok, so as a mother of 4 children who keep me busy ALOT.. sometimes we have to be creative and spontaneous.... sometimes has to be early morning or late at night when kids are sleeping... know what I mean!!

So, early one morning when the kids were still sleeping (and I know this because I usually ALWAYS have to wake them up); we decided that since we both had to get ready for work, then we would just "conserve water".... Well, i'm not sure how much "conserving" we did because we were in there quite a while.... and when it got to be just about "the moment" I hear a little voice say "mommy, are you in there..... MOOOOMMMMYYY?" (we have glass shower doors, that were fogged up, so you couldn't really see in--- thank goodness)

Everything was put to a crashing stop and this was our conversation (mind you-- I had pushed Joe to the very corner of our shower so no chance she would see him):

Me: yes, angie- I am taking a shower before work

her: where's daddy?

Me: he's probably somewhere around the house, just go back to bed for 3 more minutes (seriously- I said 3 more minutes-- that's really all we needed) :-)

her: but I need Daddy...

Me: Go back to bed-- NOW.. I will tell daddy to come in when I see him (wink-wink)

her: can you wipe the door so I can see in?

Me: NO-- go back to bed

her: Pleeaassee...? I want to see your face...

me: NO-- Ok, Angie-- just go lay in my bed and I will be out in T-H-R-E-E minutes!!!

That did get her out of there... but not before she basically "ruined the moment".... needless to say, I had to get out of the shower, get her out of my bed and into her room so that Joe could also get out of the shower.... and then we went about our day!!!

Don't feel too bad for us, we just met back at home later for "lunch" (hee-hee)

In case you are wondering.... I am not a bad mom for letting Angie watch Transformers 2; she watches ALL movies that her brothers watch without ever being scared....EVER!!

But for some reason, those big- loud- mean Decepticons with deep voices and red eyes that are pouncing and throwing people around, scared the beejeebies out of her!!

(hmmm, maybe that was a bad decision on my part...)

In honor of the upcoming Halloween weekend; today's "All About MeMe" is going to the Darkside.... creepy, scary darkside...

I actually like scary things.... I love to watch scary movies and I love haunted houses (a like that I share with CJ, who is taking after his mommy)... probably mostly because I know I can get scared, but it won't really happen to me, so it's ok!!

BUT, as a 5 year old girl, it was hard to seperate reality from the scary TV stuff. At 5 years old, my babysitter/nanny at the time let me watch Salem's Lot with her. It was late one evening, we had all the lights out, she made popcorn and I felt like a.big.girl.

That was short lived.... I don't remember much of the movie that scared me except for the one scene.... the one image that has never left my mind....

If you have seen the movie, you know what this is...... A boy was sleeping in his bed when he hears a scratching, tap-tap-tap on his window; and when he looks out he sees this vampire (who happens to be his brother) floating outside his window!!! yikes.... I cried...

And from that moment on until just recently (i know I'm a nerd), I would not sleep with the blinds open and I had to have some kind of light on at some place in my house (as a kid, it had to be the hall light right outside my door).

Of course now I am a BIG.GIRL and I have still yet to watch that movie again.... I am sure it really won't be that scary now, but I am not chancing it... I am finally able to sleep with my blinds open and all lights off!! :-)

I hate feeling rushed.... I hate being late and I hate that tense feeling inside when I am running behind. This morning I got up late.... mind you, the kids were all awake, but decided to stay in their beds and lounge around until I got up (yes, they SHOULD have gotten up and startd getting ready).

After getting up late, I was running around the house getting everyone up, moving dressed, breakfast, lunches made, myself dressed and bed made all in a matter of 30-40 minutes (and no, I don't look particularly "put together" today).

Finally get everyone in the truck, boys to school, Angie to school and when I open the door to her class I realize that I forgot it was "pajama party" day!! Bad mommy...bad, bad mommy!! Sooooo, I got back in my car, drove back home to get pajamas, drove back to her school, change her clothes and finally got to work!!

And because I got to work late, there was crap piled on my desk to be done, people needed me for something, I had to notarize a bunch of crap and talk to a bunch of insurance peeps..... and have still yet to feel settled!!!

Don't you hate running late for anything.... especially in the morning..... then the WHOLE day is completely thrown off!!! I think I need a glass (or 2 or 5) of wine tonight!!

I have sooooo much to share from this past weekend... we had a great day/night on Friday when we hung out at Biketoberfest.... then Saturday, I went to Joseph's baseball game, then I took Angie to a play and then I met Joe at the tailgate/football game..... and Sunday, we just relaxed... I have some great pictures to show you all, but they will have to wait for another time because today is Tuesday; and you know what that means:

Did You Know that I've Never...........

As I tried to think about 5 things I've never done, I actually had a hard time with it.... I have always been a go-getter; I've always "took the bull by the horns"... "gone for the gusto"... I am an adreniline junkie... love adventure... And don't tell my dad this, but I have done some "experimenting" in my day (it was high school, people... who didn't "try" something).

So as I sit here, thinking.... I would have to say that more of my "never have dones" are more on the reserved, quiet, peaceful side.... well, except for the first one:

I've never:
jumped from an airplane (sky-diving) or hung high from the back of a boat (para-sailing); two things I have always wanted to do. I really don't think I ever will sky-dive, because now I am older and am a mom....and well... it is pretty dangerous. but I do fore-see myself para-sailing... soon...like the next time I am in Key West.

I've never:
been good about accepting "constructive criticism"... I am a defensive person (don't know why) and I've never liked to be told what I am doing wrong!! I work better with "positive reinforcement".. know what I mean?

I've never:
cheated on any boyfriend, husband, S.O. etc..... EVER.. and have no desire too!! I just don't have the time or energy to do the whole "sneaking around and hiding phone calls or texts" BS. If I ever feel the need or the want to stray, I will just leave him all together... obviously something would be VERY wrong to cause me to feel that way.

I've never:
betrayed a friend........EVER........ and never will!! I may have my b-i-t-c-h-y moments, but I am a loyal, faithful person. I am a good friend... true to them.. would never want to hurt them. I love my best girl friends like they are my sisters and would do anything for them.

AND, I've never:
gotten through the grief of losing my mom.... and I never, ever, ever will!!! There is not much explaining to this one, except that you all know how CLOSE we were to each other... and that it was HORRIBLE to watch my mom, my friend, my companion, my comforter suffer and die. IT SUCKS... Time does not make it better... time only makes it "bearable" to live with.

When I read MamaKat's writing assignment prompts, it made me kind of sad.... every prompt has something to do with a mom. And even though her prompts were to write about different aspects of our lives and/or our moms; it's still just the thought of HER that makes me sad. She.is.not.here. She was only 52 and she should be here!!!!

Anyway- I chose to write a poem to my mom.....

I can't remember the time I first felt your loving touch

But it was from that moment on, I know you loved me so much

I always say, you were more than just my mother,

A confidant, a comforter, a friend like no other

You were so strong and fought so hard, it sucked to see you in pain!!

I hate that cancer took you from us and that I will never get to talk to you again!!

It was because of YOU, that I am the woman I am today!!

I hope I make you proud; and that's all I have to say!!

I love you and I miss you terribly mom.... it doesn't get any easier not having you here with me!!!

Wordful Wednesday - Tailgating

Wordful Wednesday... Check it out.....

A couple weeks ago we finally took Angie to a UCF football game..... she has been wanting to go for a long time, but we usually bring her to Grama's. Not that we don't want her there, it's just that we do enjoy that little bit of time with just us and our friends....without having to entertain, feed and chase after a 4 year old... get it?? :)

Anyway, we did finally cave and brought her with us and it had to be the hottest day...ever (well not ever...... but for the freaking "fall")!! It was at least 90 something degrees.... WTH???

She didn't care if she was hot...she didn't care if she was beat red... she didn't care if I kept pouring water down her neck.... she didn't care if we really didn't want her sitting on our laps because WE were also hat.... she didn't mind because she was having a blast... and you know... that's all that really matters!!!

Of course she had to do her "booty shake" dance... (don't ask..)

Joe and Angie, so hot it was almost unbearable....

... but at least she had her cotton candy..

We did end up having to leave the game early because it just got too hot for her (and us) to handle; but we just hung out at our truck until our friends came down; and she was fine with that!!

And once they did come back, her and "Uncle" Stretch (he's not really her uncle, but all of our kids call him that because he is so fun and caring with them) had a blast running around, playing Tag and wearing my girl out... gosh he is SOOO good with kids!!

All in all, it was a good HOT day.... now please Florida, please cool off already... it's OCTOBER... geez!!

Last night we went to my Dad's house to visit with my Aunts and Grandfather.... And since it is still blazing hot here, the kids were still able to swim!!

We thought it would be fun to try to get a picture of all of them jumping in together.... yea right... fun for them.... BUT for this mommy trying to get them all to jump on 3 (and not 2...or not after 3), it was...let's say... interesting!! :)

This is about 5 songs that move MeMe....

I love music....I love all kinds of music... I am a rock girl at heart, but I do still enjoy every other kind of music too. I have certain songs that I listen to when I'm happy and want to really move. I have songs that I listen to when I am pissed about something and I need to blare the screaming hard rock on my radio. There are songs that remind me of my parents...remind me of when I met Joe... when my kids were born...hanging with my friends in school... GEEZ, how do I pick just FIVE songs....

Oh well... let's try...

1. Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. I wrote about this song HERE. It reminds me of my mom and riding in her car as a young girl, watching her dance and sing... and eventually I learned the words and we would sing it together!!

2. American Pie by Don Mclean. This one reminds me of my Dad. Again, it reminds me of riding in the car with my Dad...jamming to this song. I never understood the words, but I would dance and sing as loud as I could.

3. Ya'll Want a Single by KORN. I like all of KORN's music...actually all of it really makes me move. But I especially like this one because it is one of my "angry songs"... there is quite a bit of the "F" word in it; but when I am in a bad mood, I just love to blast this song and sing it!!

4. Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters. Again, I like all of the Foo Fighters music, but there is just something about this song (and the music video) that I especialy like. And paired with the fact that I am in love with Dave Grohl (shhhhhhh, don't tell Joe).

5. Seeing Things for the First Time by Black Crowes. What do you know.... once again, I like all of Black Crowes music.. I have seen them lots of times in concert; and am actually going to see them this weekend. But this song was a "big help song" for me when getting divorced. The lyrics are about love gone wrong and about not "bending over backwards baby, just to please". LOVE IT!!!

Gosh, there are SOOOOOOO many more I could put down here, but I won't bore you with my music,,,, especially since I am not tech savy enough to figure out how to put youtube videos on here!!

Writer's Workshop --- She's My Girl!!!

Poor MamaKat has been sick, sick these past few days; so I am going to make this writing assignment extra special to help cheer her up.

I have had a few best friends over the years; and a couple friends that I can really call my best friend now. I had a childhood best friend, Susan, who lives out of state now; but we still e-mail and keep in contact. I had an adolescent/high school/college best friend, Nikki, who I did everything with, shared everything with, got into all kinds of trouble with and learned a lot with. Over the years, we have sort of lost touch, although we still talk periodically and we really are trying to get together soon.

My two best friends now are Blondie and Brunette (remember when I talked about them HERE)….. and today I am going to tell you about Blondie (not sure if she would want me to use her name on here).

We met about 6 years ago… her husband and Joe (and I) worked together (this is before they started their own company together) and they had all been friends with each other since college. Joe and I had just recently started hanging out and he finally brought me “out” with HIS friends. We went to a UCF football game, and I knew she would be there. I was a little nervous because even though Joe and I weren’t officially dating yet, I still wanted his friends to like me. We hit it off right away…. I remember we were eating hot boiled peanuts and talking about how good they were.

Over the years, we began talking more and more…. And after she had her first child, we became even closer. I was with her for most of her labor until she had to get a c-section; and then my mom went to visit her the next morning in the hospital (one of the only times they got to talk before my mom died). Our daughters have always been very close, so we would see each other often. Then she had her second daughter and I remember going to the hospital everyday during post-partum and sitting/talking with her for hours. And then her Dad died….. I believe I was a “help” to her during that time. I believe that through my experience of losing my mom, I was able to help her understand her feelings.

The real crazy thing is that we pretty much have opposite views on politics, yet we NEVER argue about it and can still be civil about it, if it ever comes up.

As the years have gone by, and the kids are getting older, we have been able to go out and do more stuff alone. Of course we still have play dates/swim dates with the kids; but it is nice to also go out and just “whoop it up” (and that we do). We have gone on quite a few vacations together… both with our men and just alone. Actually, our first girls trip together was to the Bahamas; and what an awesome time we had!! We have been to many, many concerts together too, as we have the exact same taste in music. We both love football and actually have in depth conversations about the players and games.

Now, we pretty much talk every day, sometimes twice a day. As a matter of fact, lately we’ve gotten into the habit of a “morning call”, where as soon as we are both in the car, we’ll call each other and chat until we both get to work. It is a great start to the day, as we can laugh or vent or whatever we need to get off our chests.

I cherish her friendship very much. It is so good to have a friend who you can trust and who shares a lot of common interests. I am so glad she came into my life!!

Awwww Wednesday... I am so glad you are here... it has actually taken you a while to get here this week... but welcome anyways!!!! You come second only to Thursdays; and that's just because I don't work on Fridays, so technically Thursday is my Friday (are you still with me?)!!!

Anyway, todays Wordful Wednesday (hosted by the lovely Angie at Seven Clown Circus) will showcase just what happens when you leave the kids to "put things away neatly".

This is the hall closet that is basically all kids stuff.... it holds their towels, their craft supplies, their extra school supplies, their extra sheets and blankets for their beds, light bulbs for their rooms, their lite brite, and their container of beads (you know the ones you put on the peg board and then iron).
When things need to get put away in that closet, I usually have one of the kids do it, since it is their stuff.... and they need to learn how to take care of their stuff and put it away.

They are kids, I know.... kids are kids... kids do not think like adults and that's fine..... So, WHY does it bother me so much when I open the closet to get something and it looks like this....

AND..... why is it ME who is the one to spend an hour cleaning, throwing away crap and organizing their stuff so that it will look like this......

Please.... someone enlighten me.... am I expecting too much for my kids (especially the 11 and 13 year old boys) to want to keep their stuff neat and organized....?

It's All about Me--- Survival Mode

It’s all about Me-me Monday again….. and this week, SupahMommy and Mommy Brain want to know what are the 5 things I can’t survive without….. hmmmmmm, let me see where to start…..

1. My Chic-Fil-a LARGE cup, filled with ice and Crystal light drink in it… actually, I go between Tea and Crystal Light, but it HAS to be in that styrofoam cup (I know--- bad for the environment; sorry) or it just doesn’t taste right to me!!

2. My cell phone…. As much as I complain about some of the electronic communication items (because I feel like we will eventually stop communicating personally), I do still feel “connected” with my phone.

3. My laptop… again, this is something that keeps me “connected”; but also keeps me busy when I am bored!!

4. My CHI--- a girl’s gotta have her hair straightened, right?

5. James Patterson books… he is my favorite author and I never get tired of reading his books; whether they are about the “women’s murder club”, “Alex Cross”, Michael Bennett” or others… I just love reading his books!!!

The funny thing is, while looking at that list, I really do believe I’d be just fine ANYWHERE as long as I had those things….. who needs food and water or deodorant and soap….?

Play Ball.....

It's fall baseball season again and you know my boy Joseph is ready to play.... he is now playing "rookies" ball, so it is so fun to watch him learn the "real" game (although I am not super happy with his coach)!!

Today he played his 2nd game of the season; and while we were all burning up (91 degrees here in freaking September), we did have a great time!!

Here's to a fun, learning season..... PLAY BALL!!!

In Remission!!!

It's OFFICIAL.... Joe's Leukemia is in remission!! We got the news yesterday at his monthly appointment; after getting back the results of his chromosone tests.

We both know that it is because of the chemo pill that he's taking.... that he has to take the rest of his life.... and we know that if he stops taking it the cancer may come back.... but, whatever!!! Right now, his body is CANCER FREE and that is cause for a celebration!!!!

Wordful Wednesday - Upside Down Margarita...yummy!!

For my Wordful Wednesday post today, I am going to share with you the fun of an "Upside Down Margarita".

This past weekend Joe and I decided to go to the Florida vs. Tennesse game instead of our usual UCF (which we have season tickets for) game.... we were offered the tickets and since I have never been to a "big" college game, we figured what the heck.

One of our buddies, who is a UF alumn, has a huge tailgate party for every game.... he has tons of food, drinks, people, drinks (oh I said that) and music. About every 30 minutes, they play "Zorba the Greek" and you wouldn't believe the people who line up to get an upside-down margarita.... that being a shot (or two) of tequila and margarita mixed poured into your mouth while you are reclined, leaning your head back)....good times!!

On a much lighter note-- Ethan went to the Orthodontist this morning and now we finally have that ball rolling. Within a couple weeks my boy will have braces!! :)

So, I have found another new blog, "Adventures of a Wanna-Be SupahMommy", that I so enjoy reading and have decided to crash and join her party today!!!

This is going to be one of my favorite weekly posts, as I love.to.talk.about.me. :) This week I will tell you about 5 shows that I can't wait to watch this season..... and my kids better be reading this so they know DO NOT BOTHER MOMMY DURING THIS TIME!! (now, come on...do you really think that will happen...?)

1. The Cleaner-- Does anyone else like this show as much as me....? And does anyone like Benjamin Bratt as much as me?? :) Now, I am not a drug addict..or even a recovering drug addict for that matter...but there is something that is so interesting about watching "William Banks" clean people up!!

2. The Big Bang Theory-- This is one that I just started watching recently, but I just LOVE it.... I love the mix of nerdiness, OCD, quirky jokes and the "hot girl".

3. GLEE-- Another new one... but it is a great show!! Very funny and I actually love the musical aspect of it.

4. 90210-- Guilty pleasure...don't judge!! :) I used to watch the old Beverly Hills 90210...actually I still watch the old reruns on the SOAP channel; and even though this new version is a little "too much" at times, I still enjoy it!!

5. Melrose Place-- Yes, another guilty pleasure... again, not as good as the original and the story lines are ridiculously unbelievable; but I still enjoy it!!

Hopefully, I will actually get to watch some of them without duct-taping the kids mouths shut and glueing them to the couch (hmm...that actually sound like it might work)!!

Writer's Workshop-- If My Dogs Could Talk......

This week, MamaKat wants to know... If my dogs could talk, what would I want to ask them...

I have two dogs… a 15-year old Bluetick Coonhound named Daisy...

and an 11-year old English Springer Spaniel named Eddie....

Daisy was Joe’s dog and Eddie was my dog before we lived together…. And now they are OURS… At first they did not get along AT ALL….as a matter of fact, they barked and fought with each other so much we usually had to separate them. Things are better now, although they do still have their moments; but if they could talk, I’d like to know:

1) Daisy: Why do you constantly bark at Eddie?? Why can’t he even walk into the room or by you without you barking right in his face?? Oh and on that barking subject… are you losing your hearing and that’s why you bark at such a HIGH decibel?? And why do you follow us everywhere we walk... and can’t settle until one of us is sitting somewhere?

AND

2) Eddie: Why do you randomly growl and squeal, even if you are just sitting on the couch? Why do you run from me when I am trying to give you your medicine, wrapped in meat…and then force me to shove it down your throat?? And on the medicine subject, does that Xanax really help you feel level headed?? I mean, you definitely act like a more relaxed dog, without that crazy look in your eyes…. But is it really from the Xanax that you take twice a day...or because you knew that if you didn't stop growling, snapping and biting at the kids (and everyone else for that matter) that you might not be around to see your 12th birthday?? :)

AND

3) This is for both of you: Why is it that you chose the middle of the night, while we are trying to sleep, to lick every part of your bodies for hours (with that slurping sound)…. And then get hairballs, so you end up coughing and gagging on the hair…in our room….while we are in bed….???

I was like a kid in a candy store while shopping for this.... trying each and every one... listening to the guy at Best Buy with a twinkle in my eye, as if I were a school girl in love.

The First Day of..........

My crazy, hectic (but wouldn't change it for the world) life......

That was the day, my 4th child.... my 1st daughter, came into our lives!!! That was the day when all sanity left my head (well not really... but it sounds good for effect)!!

It's funny how each of my children have their own unique personalities, quirks, good and bad moments and challenges. CJ and Ethan were pretty easy babies (well, except for the colic that Ethan had for 3 months), toddlers, kids etc... Angie has been somewhat easy, in that she was a fast talker, walker, learner and can do alot of stuff on her own pretty fast; which frees up a hand for me. AND THEN THERE'S JOSEPH....

Please don't get me wrong... I love my Joseph... as a matter of fact, I have always babied him a little more than I should... he was born early, was very sick in the NICU for 2 weeks, was a baby when we divorced (which I ALWAYS felt guilty about), has always been little and somewhat "behind" on his progress...so, I think I have always felt like I had to nurse and baby on him a little extra....and for that, I am paying for now!!
He is the MOST.STRONG-WILLED.CHILD in this world....believe me.... he fights me for anything I say or ask him to do...

Me: Joseph, pick-up the mess
Joseph: I didn't do it
Me: I didn't ask WHO did it
Joseph: well I am not cleaning what I didn't do

Me: Joseph, go sit in time-out and don't get-up
...a little bit later (after he's been in time-out)
Me: Joseph, go put your stuff away and then you can go back and play
Joseph: No, you told me not to get up

Me: No, hold my hand
Joseph: no, I'll hold your wrist
Me: NO, HOLD MY HAND

Do you get were I am coming from....??? Do you understand my frustrations and struggles with him...?
Yesterday we were in a band store, getting Ethan stuff, and Joseph grabs a kazoo off the counter (that didn't belong to us), puts it in his mouth and starts blowing on it...then puts it back in the box and walks away. The guy at the counter looks at me and says "well, now you have to buy it".... great, thanks!!

AND, then, I got him home (ready to pull his hair out--- and no, I didn't reall do it), opened his planner and found a note from his teacher "joseph was very talkative and silly in class today...couldn't settle him down".... great, thanks!!!

There are some times/days/moments where he is a little angel...and he always wants to love on me....and during those moments I am thankful.... but then I am just waiting for the next defiance...always waiting to pull my hair out... arrrgghhhh!!!

Any advice on dealing with a hard-headed, strong-willed child?

First Day of School!!

Dear MamaKat, have you missed me?? I have been bad...very bad...very, very bad..about doing my "assignments"; but I figured that since the kids are back in school..... well, I better get back to "MamaKat's school"!!

The 5 Best things on the first day of school:

5. Angie now has to wear a uniform (at least a uniform shirt).... this now means I don't have to spend so much money on clothes for her to "stay in fashion"!! :)

4. Angie's pre-k3 teacher moved up (into the VPK-4) with her, which made for a very smooth and easy transition into a new class!!

3. I got to watch as my big boy (8th grader), CJ, helped his younger brother (6th grader), Ethan, "learn the ropes" of being a middle schooler......

2. AND watched as the 2 older boys helped their younger brother, Joseph, "learn the ropes" of waiting in the gym (instead of the lunchroom) now for his teacher!! It always makes me feel good to see them looking out for each other and taking care of each other....... even if it doesn't last long!! :)

The number 1...the BEST thing that happened on the first day of school........ My little Joseph walked right into the gym and sat down, waiting for his teacher, WITH NO TEARS!!!!!!! That's right.... we did not repeat last years fiasco of crying, screaming, kicking, clinging to me...only to be peeled off by his teacher as she quickly shut the door on me.....and then me having to drive to work in tears myself!!! NOT.THIS.YEAR. (he's a big boy now--- he says).... and as a matter of fact, he told me "OK mom, you can go now"!!!

Pour Some Sugar on Me!!!

Woo Hoo.... last night we got to see Cheap Trick, Posion and Def Leppard. It was actually really good and we had tons of fun!!!

It was such a blast from the past.....especially hearing "Every Rose has a Thorn", "Talk Dirty to Me" and "Skinny Bop Bop" and of course "Hysteria" and "Pour Sugar on Me". We danced and danced..... and of course peopl-watched.... you wouldn't believe the variety of styles-- some being stuck in the 80's!! :)

First off, I wanted to share with you, CJ's blog...... he has been watching and reading as I blog for a while now; and is so excited to be writing his own!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE head over and say hello and welcome..... and maybe you could even "follow" him, as he checks that every day!!!

Now, onto my Wordful Wednesday..... I have always been very family oriented. I love to spend as much time as I can with as much family as I can. Since my mom died, my dad and I have become much closer. My dad's dad is also still alive and we are all very close with him (Papou - greek for grandfather) too.
This past Sunday, we had a pool party at my Dad's house with lots of family..... and we got our "generations" pictures taken!!!

My Little Fish

Angie has become quite the swimmer this summer..... She is the last of my kids to learn to swim and I will be SO HAPPY when she is fully "trained". Right now, she is so fearless and just thinks she can do anything in the pool without "danger"....
If I don't go in the pool with her, I make her wear swimmies....just a little extra reassurance that she won't sink before I can get to her!!

Anyway, we went to Gamps and Grama's house a couple weeks ago and she got to swim and swim and swim!!!

Joe and I out on the boat... the weather wasn't very good this trip; but we still found a way to get out there and dodge the storms!!

This is the gigantic iguana that hangs out on our boat dock!! The picture doesn't do him justice, as he is so big it scares me!! I wonder if he will ever come after one of us....even if not provoked...?

Party night out.... somehow I got Joe into the most touristy spot, Sloppy Joe's, and even got him to dance!! two great feats---one great night!!!

This is our home away from home.... I know, I know Amy.... I am making you jealous!! :) Hey, you can come down and party with us anytime you want!!

A Scary Start to my Flight....yikes!!!

About a week and a half ago, Joe and I went back down to Key West for another "adult" trip without kids or responsibility!! I came home before him and he stayed down for the end of last week to lobster dive with his buddies!!!

I flew back on a small private plane that un-nerved me enough as it was..... but I almost "lost it" when we were ready to take off into this:

No, of course you don't see anything..... this is a picture of us flying through the storm clouds as we were making our ascent!!! The pilot made me feel comfortable as he navigated through and around the storms..... bumps and drops and all.....

The Snake Did Not Eat Me.....

I am still alive..... I have been extra, extra busy--- just relaxing... :) The last part of July was spent vacationing and visiting, while I waited anxiously for the day to come that I picked up my boys!!!
They.are.home. And just as I imagined, we are right back to crazy....ahhhh, the joys of parenting 4 children!!
I have lots of pictures to share, but just haven't had the chance to upload them yet...but hopefully tonight I can get that done!!

Anyway, my dear bloggy friend AMY, was so worried that I had been eaten by the giant python that has been seen (or caught maybe, by now) somewhere in Florida, that she wrote whole post about it here. Isn't she sweet to be so worried about me?? Thanks Amy, but I dodged that snake...don't you worry, he did not eat me!!

I was so excited to see my boys again today..... I got to spend a couple hours just hanging out with them, while we watched the movie Coraline. Joseph did much better in the "crying...screaming....freaking out...clinging to me" department today; although it was still heartbreaking to drive off while seeing him lift his shirt up and wipe his tears from his face.....
But I told them.... 10 more days....10 more days and they will be coming home.... geez, July is a LOOONNNGGGG month!!

Anyway, while there, CJ says to me "Mom, why haven't you updated your blog since last Tuesday"... apparently my boy checks up on me to see what I am doing while they are away at their dads.

So, here you go CJ...and Ethan and Joseph..... I miss you terribly and can't wait for you to be back home and for things to get back to crazy!!! Love you bunches!!!

Tuesday's Tribute - My Guy!!

In honor of Joe's birthday this Friday (don't worry babe, I won't tell them that this birthday rhymes with shorty), I am going to do my Tuesday's Tribute about my guy!!!

Joe is one of the best things that has ever happened to me (besides my children, of course!!!!). We met a little over 6 years ago, at work..... I had just seperated from my ex and he was going through a break-up. We became friends pretty fast, as we had a lot in common and just had fun together....we were both a good break from reality that we both needed.

I always looked forward to going into work so I could see him and talk and laugh with him (shhh, don't tell him, but from the start, I always had a little crush on him). And eventually we started hanging out, with other friends, outside of work. We enjoyed our time together.... either in person, at work or on the phone; but vowed to remain "just friends" since we were both going through personal stuff........ BUT, you know how that goes.....

What started out as "just friends", turned into "more than friends" and then.............. well, then the rest is history!!!

He is very good to me and the kids.... he takes care of us and makes sure we have whatever we need and most of the time whatever we "want". He is funny, adventurous, always up for a new challenge and loves to travel!!

He is a great daddy to Angie....

She loves her daddy dearly and it's safe to saythat she has him wrapped right around her little fingers!! And he has been really good with the boys.... I am sure that it was bit hard for him to go from being a single guy, living alone-- to dating a woman with 3 kids and one of his on the way...yikes!! The boys are always excited to tell him what's going on in their lives and Joseph has become particularly fond of him.

I am so thankful we found each other and have spent the past six years enjoying our lives together. I look forward to many, many, many, many more years.... Happy Birthday, Mi Lord (only he will get that)!!!

Oh, how I miss these boys.....

July is always hard for me as the boys spend the w-h-o-l-e month with their dad.... and while it is "quieter" around the house and most things are a little easier without them here; it is also very "quiet" and much moring boring!! I know I usually gripe about things being too hectic and overwhelming at times, but always duing July I miss that hussle & bussle!!!

Anyway, I got the chance to see the boys for a couple hours today..... and it was a great couple of hours.... until I had to go and my little Joseph started to cry..... and cry harder....and cling to me and not let go..... and have to be pulled off of me and get closed behind the door---quickly. Oh how that breaks my heart!!!

But thank God for this girl.....

She keeps me on my toes and keeps my mind busy while "her guys" (as she calls them) are away. She talks my ear off and has me dancing and playing house.... and scolding her every other minute as she is an independent 4-year old.... but if she weren't here, I'd surely lose my mind!!!

Wordful Wednesday - Our 4th of July Weekend

For this week's Wordful Wednesday (hosted by one of my favorite bloggers, Angie) I will share about our 4th of July vacation.

Joe and I got to take an "adult" vacation last week and wow, it was GREAT!!! Of course, I love to take the kids with us too.... but it is also very nice to have alone time, with no responsibility!! : )
We drove down to Key West to spend 4 days of boating, swimming, tanning, relaxing, eating, drinking (alot), and just enjoying our time together!!!

It's always fun to spend a holiday down there, as all the locals (and tourists too) head out to one of many little islands to hang out.... and at low tide, you get the best of both..... deeper swimming with a sandbar just a few feet away!!!

This 4th of July seemed like more boats than I've ever seen out there.....

There had to be at least 200 boats.... all shapes and sizes.... all different types/ages of people..... we were even entertained by a DJ booth set-up on one of the boats (still not sure how they powered that)..... good times!!!

Hope you all had as much fun as we did......

Tuesday's Tribute - My Dad

I have been reading Angie's (at Seven Clown Circus---love her!!) blog for a while now.... she makes me feel not quite so crazy with four kids, seeing as she has 5 and wow, how does she do it??? (something people often ask me.... ). Anyway, she hosts this super cool blog carnival that I have decided to join in..... Tuesday's Tribute-- a time to showcase somebody other than myself.....hmmm, how do I do THAT?? (j/k... I am really not that self-absorbed or narcisstic).

Today, I will showcase..................... MY DAD. I didn't get to do a Father's Day post because I was too busy talking about being a mom to a teenager, so I will share my thoughts today!!

I am definitely Daddy's girl..... even at 34 years old, I still love to be with my Dad, love to get his approval and advice, love to just sit and talk, love to watch him with my kids as he acts like "one of them". My Dad is such an easy going, laid back, genuine kind of guy.... it takes ALOT to get him angry (which I know I did LOTS of during my teenage years)... and he has a sort of dry sense of humor (sorry Dad). He is an incredibly smart engineer, who likes to devote his time to teaching others and mentoring "troubled" kids. He is a good husband who always tries to make sure his wife his happy and taken care of. And of course he is a WONDERFUL daddy to me.... I don't know what I would do without him!!! He is my rock when I need strength, my comic when I need a laugh, my shoulder when I need to cry, my ear when I need to vent.... he is MY.DAD.

Random Thoughts & My "Reality Check"

I'm sorry that I have been a bad blogger lately..... with the kids out of school for summer, things have just been busy, busy, busy and BUSY!!! :) And I have also been struggling with BAD back issues!!
I finally have a few minutes to sit down and share some thoughts......

*My first "reality check" as a mom to a teenager-- yesterday I took CJ and a few friends to lunch and a movie to celebrate his birthday...... now, normally I think I am a pretty cool mom; I dress in fashion, listen to cool music , like to party, drive a cool Durango and am fun.... but as I sat in the car with those 4 teenagers (girls & boys), I realized I.AM.NOT.COOL. to them.... they probably look at me like the nerdy mom.... wow, reality bites!!!

*Technology is going to be the death of interaction in our new generation of kids..... eventually they won't even talk in person to anybody, as they will be too busy on their ipods or computers or texting each other.... They won't learn to communicate properly and then won't be able to conduct themselves in an interview to get a job and further their careers..... enough already!!!

*My boys are going to their dads for the month of July (like they do every summer)..... I am already missing them and they haven;t even left..... I do enjoy the quiet, but after a few days I get bored!!!

*I didn't think I cared much for Michael Jackson anymore..... you know, he did get a bit "out there" in his more recent years..... but since his death, I have felt kind of down about it. Maybe it's just because since his death they have been playing his music over and over again, and that brings up alot of memories for me....

*Am I being irrational or overbearing in thinking that my 13 year old is TOO young to be on MySpace and Facebook?? Seriously....shouldn't he be outside playing still.... I know he is 13, but yet he is 13.....isn't that still a kid??

* It is 10:38am and all three of my boys are still asleep..... Forget breakfast--- by the time they get up, it will be lunch time!!

* We saw the movie UP yesterday.... very cute movie!!!

* I am so irritated at my dog, Eddie.... He absolutely will not take his pills from me... I wrap them in meat or cheese or any other appealing food for him and he will turn his head, every.time. Yet, if Joe or CJ or anybody else tries he takes it right up.... why is that?? He can't be that smart...?

* I am ready to get back to the beach.... I have to keep up my summer tan.... :)

Ok, I guess that is enough for now..... anything else you want to know about me??? Ask away...... I love to talk!!!

It's Official.............

I am a mom of a T-E-E-N-A-G-E-R..... yikes!!!!

This time 13 years ago, I was a first time mommy..... holding my baby boy, CJ, in my arms....gazing into his eyes wondering what he would be like as he grew up!!!
And here I am now, 13 years later..... he is such a big boy now....such a sweet, loving, caring boy..... and such a big helper!!! Now, don't get me wrong-- he does have his "teenage moments", with that "teenage attitude"..... but for the most part he is a very good boy!!

Happy 13th birthday, CJ..... I am so proud of all you have accomplished so far and I love you very, very much!!!

Such a good BIG brother....

Wordful Wednesday - Brush with Fame & Our Orlando Magic

First and foremost...... my BIG BOYS ARE HOME....yipppppeeee!!! Wow, I sure have missed them and am so glad they are back home to their mama!!!! This coming Sunday, my big boy....my first born will be turning 13..... that is T-H-I-R-T-E-E-N...... CAN.YOU.BELIEVE.IT?

On to my Wordful Wednesday..... As many of you already know, our Orlando Magic basketball team got their tails handed to them by the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals. We are season ticket holders (we share them with Joe's partners of his company), so we were able to be at alot of the games.....in-season and post-season....nothing was more fun than watching them win the Eastern Conference finals against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.....especially since the NBA "higher-ups" were doing their best to "make" it be a Lebron vs. Kobe Final.

As with most big sporting events, you will always see some type of celebrity..... A) because they are trying to get noticed or B) because they actually like that team.... either way, it is fun to scan the crowd and "star-gaze". At most of the Magic games we would see Chris Brown & Warrick Dunn...sometimes Rihanna, Serena Williams, Hulk Hogan and John Cena....among others!!!

This past Sunday, we went to Game 5 of he NBA Finals......yea, the game that LA easily won the championship..... and while waiting for our players to head into the locker room and hand out "fist-pumps" (which are always fun), we came across Chris Tucker.....

He was much bigger in person...much more muscular....and very friendly!!!! Wow, a brush with fame.....aren't I lucky....? :)

And just for fun....just to show support for our Orlando Magic....even if they didn't win the Finals..... here are some pics of our favorite players!!!

Where Do I Want to be Right Now......?

I am late, I know..... but I still made it..... I couldn't miss another assignment, so I walked uphill both ways in the rain to get my Writer's Workshop assignment done....... Where do I want to be???

It would be really easy for me to say that I would much rather be on the beach somewhere....sitting in a lounge chair, sipping a Corona, running my fingers and toes through the sand, watching my kids build sand castles......yes, I would like that right now..... I am truly a beach girl.......
BUT, where I would really, really, REALLY like to be is sitting in my mom's living room, WITH HER ALIVE, talking to her...telling her about what the kids have been doing, telling her about Julie and how I hate cancer.... telling her my problems and the things that are bothering me and listening to her tell me that everything will be ok!!!!
Yes, I would much rather be visiting with my momma than sitting on the beach relaxing...... my mom could make everything feel better.....and I would give anything to have an evenign with her again........... until we meet again in Heaven, I will just dream......and write to her in my journal!!! :)

My Babies are Growing

I am not a green thumb.... in fact, I'm probably a brown thumb. I always have great intentions....and I read the "directions" on the seed packages; but I never seem to get it right!!! I can raise children..... but not plants or flowers or veggies or anything that grows from the ground!!

So, imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to find this:

That's right my friends, those are SUNFLOWERS and they are blooming.....and not just on one plant....but two.....that's right TWO!!!! I can.not.believe.it.

I have tried before, but never made it this far......

Now, this is where I need your help...... How do I transport my sweet babies into the ground without killing them....? Or do I just leave them in the pots?? Will they still grow big if they just stay in the pots?? Help me, help me my green thumb friends!!!

Wordful Wednesday - My Beach Babes

Busy, busy day for me..... started off at 5:45am, when I got up to take my big boys (CJ and Ethan) to the airport... They are flying to Indiana to visit my Nana for a week; and while they have done this before, it is still hard to let them go and entrust them into somebody else's care.....

Then I came home and am sitting in a non-A/C house while we are having a new one installed.... I can't wait to see if this new, more-efficient unit is actually......well, more efficient.....and will lower my electric bill and cool my house adequately!!

So, while I am sitting here.....waiting and waiting....which if you know me well, you know that I am.not.a.waiter(and by "waiter" I mean a patient person)....... I will do my Wordful Wednesday post..... My beach babes!!!

I just LOVE this picture..... I am not a braggard, but I really do have cute kids.... :) This picture was taken while we were in Key West.... we always drive the boat out to a little island and while the tide is out, we hang out on the sand bars swimming, sunning, eating, drinking playing etc.... I love going there....it is so relaxing!! And the kids love going because it is shallow enough for them to stand and feel comfortable; yet at the same time deep enough to swim too!!

I love the water looks so crystal clear..... awwwww, it takes me away...... hmmm, for a minute I forgot I was sitting in my house with no A/C.....

Party & Memorial.... How did it go???

I'm sure you have all been on the edge of your seats waiting....wondering how my weekend filled with emotions went..... Ok, so I'm reaching there....but just humor me and pretend like you are concerned.... :)

I am going to go backwards, as to end on a high/happy note......... So, about the memorial on Sunday-- it went great.... it was very informal, but very touching. Alot of people came to remember and memorialize Julie; and it was so nice to hear all the nice things everyone had to say about her!! We eneded it with her husband singing some songs that he had written her....and promised her that he would sing at her funeral. He was so worried that he wouldn't make it through without choking up, but we were all so proud of him that he did it and sounded great!!! Of course the rest of us could hardly get through his songs....but at least he did!!

Anyway, Saturday was Joseph's (and his half-brother Aiden's) birthday party. We did it at this dad's house since he has a pool and it turned out really nice!! We had a thunderstorm threatening for most of the afternoon....but "threaten" is all that it did, so we survived with a little bit of rain and alot of fun!!
"D" (my ex's fiance') did a great job decorating and baking and everything else party related.... I was so relieved to walk in and see evrything all set up and looking so perfect for the kids!!

Party & Memorial...... Happy & Sad

These next two days are going to bring a range of emotions for me......

For starters, today is my mom's birthday.... and if she were still alive, we would be spending the day together....out shopping and lunch and then I'm sure we would have a dinner for her with all of the family..... Instead, I sit here and just "remember" all of the fun we used to have!!! Happy Birthday, Mommy!!! I miss you and love you dearly!!

Anyway, today we are having Joseph's birthday party..... yes, his birthday was two weeks ago, but because of everyone's schedules, we had to plan the party for today. It will be a fun day of Star Wars, friends and family swimming and bouncing (in the bounce house) and just plain partying!!! We are having a "co-party", meaning the party is for Joseph and his half-brother Aiden (his dad's son with his fiance'), meaning I actually have help with this party..... and actually, she has done most of the work planning and setting up, which has been a nice, welcomed change/help!!! Thanks, Danielle!!

but,

Tomorrow we are having Julie's memorial here at my house..... we will have most of her friends and neighbors over here for a day filled with memories, laughs and tears.... a day to remember a wonderful friend!!

I will tell you all about both of them later....but for now I have to run off and get ready!!!!

PhotoStory Friday - 7 Mile Bridge

I think I have finally gotten back into the groove with blogging..... things have been so hectic and crazy these past couple of months, but I feel more organized now; thus I am back for my daily blog carnivals....... and today it's PhotoStory Friday..... I sure have missed my PSF friends!!!

Have any of you ever been to Key West....? Or better yet, have any of you ever driven to Key West....? The last part of the drive is about 150 (i can't remember the exact number) miles on US 1 as you drive through all the Florida Keys.... Sometimes it can take the same amount of time from Florida City (right at the end of the turnpike....and at the beginning of US 1) to KW as it does to get from our home to Florida City.
For the most part it is a nice drive, as there is alot to look at as we go through each Key..... but if you get there at the wrong time, it can be long and boring sitting in traffic...moving 15 mph!!

Right past Marathon Key you get on the 7 Mile Bridge.... and it is a long bridge connecting one key to the next and it is.... you guessed it... 7 miles long. They have a new, wider, updated, much nicer bridge now; but they still have the old, historic bridge still standing that people stop at...... for scenic reasons or to fish off of!!

In all of the times that we have driven down, I have never stopped.... usually I am tired of driving and just.want.to.get.there. But this past time, the kids were begging to stop, so we obliged.....

The kids had fun "running in the street" (by that I mean they were running on what used to be the street), and seeing lots of scenery and animals..... I don't if anyone has ever heard this, but iguanas (BIG iguanas) are very prevalant down there...you can see them anywhere, anytime..... and we actually saw a SUPER big one while we were on the bridge..... and Joseph thought that was the.coolest.thing.ever.

I think we might continue to make that stop every time we drive down there now.... It was a nice break.... nice to get out of the car, stratch our longs.... breaking the monotony of that drive!!!

I can't believe I just wrote this whole post about a bridge....... Oh well, HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Writer's Workshop --- Gifts!!!

Wow, things are so quiet around here right now….. too quiet…. the boys went to stay with their Abuela for a few days and it is way too quiet!! Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy some silence……but only for a few minutes and then I miss the hustle & bustle that is my life!!!

Oh well....I guess it gives me time to finish my “assignment” for MamaKat, who probably thinks I am a terrible student….. seeing as I have been skipping class and forgetting to do my “homework”.....… I will make it up to you MamaKat…. I will try to hook you up with my BFF Ellen DeGeneres!! :)

Anyway, this is an easy one for me this week because of the recent loss of my great friend, Julie…I have chosen prompt #3... to describe a memorable gift and why it is important to me!!! Obviously this is easy for me, as it is a gift (gifts) from her that I will tell you about....

On this table, it may not seem like alot of things..... but there is a alot of meaning in it all.... These are the gifts I received for my birthday this year (in addition to the awesome shopping spree that Joe took me on); and just about every one of them came from Julie.

She loved giving gifts.... she loved to make people happy.... every Christmas (and other holidays) and every birthday anyone had (especially the neighborhood children), she would go out and get something for that person.

While my mom was alive, she started a collection (for me) of "Willow Tree" figurines/angels... I love them... I have a few from my mom and then a few more from my friends; and each and every one of them means something to me.
I am also a big fan of Bath & Body Works... I could spend all day in there looking around and smelling new scents etc...

Actually, in one of the bigger shopping plaza's by us, there is a B&BW and a Hallmark right next to each other....... and on M-A-N-Y occasions, Julie and I would go shopping (or "window" shopping) together. She used to joke that she wanted to catch up with me on her own collection of Willow Tree angels, so if any of mine ever went missing "I would know where to look"!!!

So, on this past birthday, she went ALL OUT... she gave me a gift bag full of Bath & Body Works soaps, hand gels/foams, and lotions. And she gave me 3 (three....yes, three......) Willow Tree's: 1)The Birthday Girl, 2) The Angel of Giving and 3) Sisters at Heart.....

The "Sisters at Heart" meant (means) SO,SO, SO much to me..... it made her and I feel that we were more than just friends.... I loved her more than just my buddy..... She was like a sister to me.... we were "Sisters in Heart"!!!! I Miss You Honey!!!!

Wordful Wednesday - Gone Fishin'

It's Wednesday.... half way through the week.... the last.day.of.school. WOW, where does the time go??? I just got back from the boy's school, where I watched my Ethan "graduate" 5th grade..... WOW, where does the time go??? I will now have T-W-O middle schoolers....

I just spent the last 45 minutes crying through the whole ceremony.... watching my boy walk on stage and get his awards.... thinking about how big and mature he is now..... remembering him as a baby, toddler, young boy, and now a pre-teen.... WOW, where does the time go???

Anyway, Wednesday also means "Wordful Wednesday".... I have been a bad blogger and have missed the past few Wednesdays.... but I.AM.BACK.

Because of everything that has been going on personally.... home stuff, end of the year stuff, and losing my friend...I haven't shared my Key West photos...sorry.... but you understand, right??
Today, I will share our "Fishing Tale".....

We drove the boat out to a small reef/rock area where we knew their would be loads of fish....threw out our chum and baited our lines....
Angie and Joseph went first.......

...and one after the other they were just pulling them up....

and up....

Then I took my turn and I thought "this looks too easy....the kids can do it and I should have no problem, right???" WRONG....

I tried and tried and tried.... I threw out my line over and over again.... I would feel the fish nibble on the bait... I would get so excited and then try to "set the hook", and that's where it all went downhill... I just could.not.get.it.

But I didn't give up.... and after 10 or so tries (yes, that is embarassing), I finally caught a fish.... and a grouper at that....

It was too small to keep....and I never did catch another one.... but I did catch one.... and I will take it!! :)

CANCER SUCKS......PERIOD.

I am so freaking tired of people close to me being affected by cancer!!! I am so tired of watching people close to me fight and fight and fight and then lose their battle with that awful disease!!! I.HATE.CANCER....... PERIOD.

Early this morning I lost my very close friend, Julie, to cancer. She battled cancer for many, many years....and actually she defied alot of doctor's odds; and lived alot longer than any doctor ever thought she would!!
But that doesn't make this any easier!!!

She was tired.... she was hurting and her body was tired..... We were able to say everything we needed to say to each other (she told me she loved me every night that we talked on the phone)....nothing left unsaid. She knew how much I loved her; and I know how much she loved me!!
But selfishly, that doesn't make it easier!!!

Julie was the sweetest friend anyone could ask for. She had a very rough family upbringing/life (her parents were not good to her), so I think that made her a better friend, as all she longed for was to be loved and cared for!! Her and I spent every Wednesday and Friday together (my days off)... we would get our nails or hair done together, shop, go to lunch or just hang out and laugh.... geez, those days off will be so lonely now!!

Anyway, the past 2 weeks she had Hospice "Crisis Care" (not End of Life care) at her home to help stabilize her blood pressure.... one of the cancers she had was in the adrenal glands so that majorly affected her BP.... and over the past week I started hearing and seeing her get weaker and more "out of it".
While I was in Key West, I still called her everyday to check on her; and during one of our phone calls she said "I hope I can wait for you"..... I certainly didn't think then that I would have lost her now.

She did wait for me.... I got to see her briefly Wednesday morning.... we had a nice visit...talked and laughed and then she got sleepy...so I went home to let her rest. That evening I called her, but she was very incoherent... I could barely understand her. Thursday morning when I called, her husband said she was unresponsive and could not be woken..... what.... what do you mean.... No, it's not time yet!!!

After 2 days of "actively dying"..... where we all kept vigil over her as she struggled to breath..... she lost her battle early this morning.... she is now in Heaven...no longer suffering...no longer in pain....no longer hurting!!!
I love you and miss you, Honey.....

After a LONG Miserable Drive Home......

We got home last night after a long, miserable 8 1/2 hour drive home.... a drive that normally takes us 6 hours..... after a long, wonderful vacation in Key West....on the boat...fishing, swimming, tanning.....

We walk in the door to an 82 degree house.....why?? Because sometime while we were gone, our AC went out..... arrrggghhhh.... nothing like capping off a vacation like that, huh???

Anyway, I will post more about the trip and post pictures later....once we get this AC fixed and I can start relaxing.... but for now, please excuse me while I go fan myself.... hee-hee (j/k, it's not that bad yet)!!!

My little Joseph will be celebrating his 7th birthday on Sunday....wow, I can't believe he is 7 already....where does the time go??
Oh my little Joseph...or should I say my BIG Joseph...what a spitfire he is. He started out a wee little 4 lbs, with lots of health problems; and while he is still a wee little thing (weighing about the same as his little sister), he is very strong inside...and bythat I mean strong-willed, hard-headed, stubborn etc.... but he is also very, very sweet and loving.... and wow, what an athlete he is!!

These were taken 3 or 4 years ago... what a C-U-T-I-E!!!

He may give me a headache at times and have me wanting to pull my hair out.... but I love everything about him.... my big boy, Joseph!!

Not Me Monday - Weekend Fun!!

Wow.... I finally came up for air..... what a weekend!!! We were going from Friday Morning until late last night!!
But, of course, since today is Not Me Monday (which I have missed for a while.... Have you missed me MckMama??); there are alot of things that I "did not" do all weekend!!

I did not spend all morning/early afternoon bowling with a bunch of hormonal, giddy 7th graders!!

After we bowled, I did not have a BLAST playing in the arcade with CJ.... including Whack-a-Mole!!

I did not cheer (scream) as loud as I could after Joseph hit his first "pitched" (not from a tee)baseball...and hit it high and way out into the outfield!!

I did not let the kids eat a GIANT pixie stick after the t-ball party...no way...that would be too.much.sugar.

I did not get into the kids blow-up pool with them because I was so freakin hot!!

I did not act like an anal freak and make them step in a bucket of water and then wipe their feet EVERY TIME before they got into that pool.... I am not a cuckoo like that!!

I did not let Joseph sleep in until 10:00am yesterday morning....

I did not get sucked in to making my "famous" mashed potatoes at my dad's house for dinner.... I wouldn't do that since HE is the king of mashed potatoes!! :)

I did not let the kids swim...and swim...and swim hoping they would wear themselves out and go to bed early.

I did not let Joseph take a picture with almonds in the sides of his mouth to look like a vampire...

While swimming, I did not look at CJ and think "wow, where did my little boy go...?"

So, what did you NOT do this past week??

Angelina Ballerina

Did you know that Angie is really Angelina? Yes I agree, it is a beautiful name!! (just a little bit of family trivia to start you off with) :)

Angie has been taking ballet classes at her school for the past 6 or 7 months.... Every Wednesday, she and 3 other little girls from her class spend 30 minutes learning ballet positions and moves.... or at least as much as 4 year olds can learn (Oh, I know.... somebody out there will tell me their 4 year old dances at Julliard.... pooh on you... hee-hee!!)

Last Wednesday, my sweet little lady had her first ballet "recital".... and by "recital", I mean we sat in another classroom and watched the teacher hold their ballet lesson; and then did a short (very short) dance. It was just.so.darn.cute.

TAH-DAHHHHHH....

And while she really enjoyed herself....and enjoyed being part of extra activities..... I definitely think she takes after me in the graceful department. :)

I am feeling kind of down today...... no, actually ALOT down.... Last night I reached my breaking point with my children and it put me right over the edge.... I am dealing with 4 children, all at different ages and stages....all with different challenges.

There is CJ is about to be a teenager...with a teenager attitude; Ethan who is very introverted and doesn't really socialize, but gets upset with me for not spending enough time with him (which I constantly try to do), Joseph who is THE.MOST strong-willed child you have ever met---e-v-e-r....a constant battle with him, and Angie who is 4..... and is 4!!

And then there is the constant battle with "taking sides" and "picking favorites"....which I do not do...as a matter of fact, I try real hard to stay out of their fights, so that no one will think I am picking sides.

Oh and then there is the constant battle at dinner time...always somebody doesn't like something and we have to hear about the whole meal time.... we can't just have normal dinner conversations....

SOOOOOO..... I have decided, TOMORROW I WILL stop being so hard on myself......and will try really hard to just let things go!!

I will not let Joseph get under my skin and make me have to yell..... I will just let it go (and walk.away.) when he complains about something not going his way!!!

I will not let my feelings get so hurt when CJ tells me that I act like I am always upset with them...or when he gives me the cold/silent treatment because he is not getting his Clarinet Reeds until tomorrow...... I will let it go and remember that he is about to be a teenager and he.will.have.attitude.

I will learn to just relax..... and remember that they are.just.kids. And I will continue to raise them in the rigth direction, with a "firm hand", but will not be brought to tears every night because I am so frustrated about something that one of them has done!!!
I will not feel sorry for myself because I am practically doing this all.on.my.own..... as the boy's dad (my ex) works so much that he doesn't have a big part in their rearing!!! I will JUST BE!!!

Awww..... thanks MamaKat... I needed that assignment this week.... Gosh, who ever thought homework could be therapeutic????

Kayleigh

Once again, I "became attached" to a sweet little baby who I've never met. I began reading Kayleigh's story about 6 months ago..... a story about a baby born way too early, weighing only one pound and doing all she could to fight for her little life..... a story about a mom and dad going through the emotional NICU roller coaster and writing about their feelings and strengths..... and a story about a family, fully relying on God's will to provide a miracle or take away Kayleigh's suffering!!!

My heart is breaking for that family now, as last night little Kayleigh lost her fight.... and earned her angel wings!!!

Please stop by their blog and leave a little message.... I can not even imagine the pain they are going through right now.... and for so long they have heavily relied on their blog for support.

Does anybody else get this emotional about people they've never met....? And not just the sad times.... but also feeling happy, silly, mad etc.... reading about people whom you've never!! Or am I just CRAZY??? (well, maybe I am a little crazy in general.... but you know what I mean...)

I was a bit nervous about taking 2 of my children through the mess that is the airport and then on a plane for 2 1/2 hours....especially because the 2 children that I speak of are my "most challenging"..... a 4-year old, who is....well.... 4 (enough said); and a 6 year old, who is the MOST strong willed child I have ever met---- in.my.life. But they did great.... they behaved so well in the airport and on the plane!!

The weather was beautiful in Indiana.... it never got above 70 degrees....a much needed change from the 95 degrees we are used to!!

We had a really nice time visiting with my Nana.... I feel bad for her because she lost her husband (my Papaw) about 10 years ago; and then she lost my mom.....and she is really lonely!! So, these occasional trips our very good for her....and the kids can always make her smile!!!

Our first stop, before we went to my Nana's house was Gray Bros. Restaurant (has anybody ever eaten there???)... This is a tradition that we have done ever since I was the kid's ages:

After we got to her house, I left everyone and went to buy some flowers & balloons and then "spent some time" with my mom:

The kids spent a lot of time outside in her "cool" (rye) grass (and getting muddy--yuck!!)

And playing at the "cool" park by her house...... they (and me too) got a big kick out of how BIG it was....

And we had a great time "just visiting".......

and goofing off (yes, those teeth are fake)......

I did take the kids to the cemetery on Saturday..... but it makes me SO sad that those are the only real memories that Angie and Joseph will have of my mom!!

And I did convince my Nana to make one of my favorite homemade meals.... ground sirloin patties, cooked in mushroom soup/gravy; mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, green beans and fresh sliced tomatoes.... y-u-m-m-y!!

Our flight back got a little bumpy......no, a LOT bumpy..... so mus so that the pilot told us AND the flight attendants to "Get in your seats NOW and tighten your seat belt as tight as you can" (so....yea, I was completely freaking out--on the inside!!)....

But that didn't phase a sleeping Joseph..... (have I ever told you how deep he sleeps....? and how hard it is for me to wake him in the mornings....?)

I am so glad we decided to take that mini-trip....it was nice to get away, even if for only 2 days.... it was nice to visit my grandma..... and it was nice to spend some quiet time at my mom's grave-site!!!
